Community Collab: Guelph Black Heritage Society Lantern Ale.

This beautiful blonde ale is easy-drinking and refreshing with aromas of honey, Wonder Bread, apricots and hint of fresh cut grass. As the beer warms, some green apple and boozy notes also emerge. On the palate, grainy sweetness leads into a dried apricot note.

Guelph Black Heritage Society strives to create a cultural, historical and social community center within Guelph and Wellington County at Heritage Hall. The 1880 building that Guelph Black Heritage Society has been working out of since 2012 is a former British Methodist Episcopal Church which had ties to the Underground Railroad. At that time, the lantern was a symbol of hope and safety, guiding people to freedom. It is believed that a lantern placed in the window of a home was used as a sign to identify a safe house along the underground railroad. With help from our talented designer, Cai Sepuis, we’ve created a label that tells the story behind the lantern.

50 cents from each can sold goes directly to GBHS and the initiatives they are pursuing, including their upcoming celebration, "An Evening of Liberation" which will feature an Afro Dance lesson with Binty from Afro-Tribal, Drumming with Emmitt, and Soca & Afro Beats with DJ Jinx - all of which pair wonderfully with a fresh can of Lantern Ale!
