Power Blaster is pale ale designed to maximize hop flavour and aroma, without deriving much hop bitterness. This results in a bright, fruity, slightly sweet pale ale. The Mosaic hops used in Power Blaster provide the beer with flavours and aromas of ripe mango and peach.
Hops are generally used in beer to provide bitterness to balance malt sweetness. Boiling hops converts compounds in those hops into bittering compounds. The longer hops are boiled for, the more conversion takes place and the higher the bitterness. The amount of bittering compounds in a beer is given a numerical value in IBU, or “international bitterness units.” Hops added to a beer after the boil (whirlpool) or during fermentation and conditioning (dry-hopping) contribute bitterness but are not traditionally captured by IBU estimating calculations. Hence, beers not made by boiling hops may have bitterness but are typically called “zero IBU” in jest.
